Ivana Živaljević

Dr Ivana Živaljević is a Senior Researcher at the BioSense Institute. She received her BA (2007) and MA (2009) degrees in Archaeology from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, and her MLitt (2010) degree from the School oh History, Classics and Archaeology, Newcastle University. In 2017, she received her PhD degree in Archaeology from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade (theme: Fishing in the Danube Gorges in the Early Holocene (10th – 6th millennium BC). She was previously engaged as a researcher on the H2020 project BIRTH (Births, mothers and babies: prehistoric fertility in the Balkans between 10,000-5000 BC), the first project in Serbia supported by the European Research Council (ERC), and as a PI on the project Science for the Museums: the prehistory of Sombor and its surroundings in the light of new bioarcheological research supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia. Ivana’s area of expertise is archaeozoology, with a particular emphasis on fishing, hunting, and the origins of animal husbandry and dairying in the prehistory of Southeastern Europe. Her research has been focused on various aspects of human-animal relations in the Mesolithic and Neolithic, mainly from an archaeozoological and anthrozoological perspective, but also incorporating stable isotope analysis, ancient DNA analysis, use-wear and residue analysis.
