The Cornerstone for the BioSense Institute

The cornerstone for the construction of the new building of the BioSense Institute that is marked as the European Center of Excellence and scientific lighthouse in the region was laid in Novi Sad, in May 2021.

The event gathered high government officials, EU delegation, ambassadors, business, and industry representatives. Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić pointed out that the beginning of the construction of the new building helped in spreading the image of Serbia as a country that can offer innovations, intelligence, and work.

„This was the foundation for further scientific progress of Serbia and further positioning of our country on the innovative map of the world,” explained the Prime Minister.

BioSense bravely changes the face of agriculture today, by building strong and mutually beneficial bridges with European research and innovation community and securing enough safe and adequate food for the growing global population.

“I am sure that BioSense will have the best working conditions and that the most perspective young scientists will work here and do their best to increase the yield and improve environmental protection, which is a condition of the progress of any state “, highlighted Miloš Vučević, the mayor of Novi Sad.

The director of the BioSense Institute, Vladimir Crnojevic, explained that the idea of starting such an institute came up many years ago, when a group of researchers realized the importance of merging information technologies and agriculture.

„Exactly six years ago, the institute was founded, when it became clear that it is not just one project. Today we have more than 120 scientists, the goal is to exceed 200. We currently employ 50 PhD experts at the institute, and we have close to 100 research projects in various fields, the most important are those that are boosting the cooperation with the industry “, highlighted Crnojević.

ANTARES aims to evolve BioSense Institute into a European Centre of Excellence (CoE) for advanced technologies in sustainable agriculture. To achieve this, our work focuses on three pillars of sustainability: strong research infrastructure that includes the new building and state-of-the-art equipment, dedicated human resources plan, and scientific excellence.
